BOOKING CONDITIONS
All fees must be paid before Track Hut Passes are issued. For safety reasons hut Passes are NOT transferable. CANCELLATION & REFUND CONDITIONS
The Track cancellation & change fees are imposed by the Department of Conservation. Department of Conservation will not be responsible for any costs incurred by intending walkers. The Department of Conservation recommends that you arrange travel insurance to guard against the loss of costs associated with cancellation or delay of your trip.
Track access is limited to 40 people per day.

Travel to The Divide from Te Anau or from Milford Sound to The Divide is by various bus/coach Operators. Travel from The Divide to either Te Anau, Te Anau Downs (Beginning of the Milford Track) or Milford Sound is available by various bus/coach Operators. EQUIPMENT Campers will also need - Tent, gas cooker & bed roll. Please allow the minimum of 2 days to walk the Routeburn Track. A reasonable amount of fitness is required to walk the 12kms per day. Weather in the Fiordland region is changeable. Heavy rain, driving wind and snow in summer can cause rapid temperature drops. Fording floodwaters up to a metre (3 feet) high may be necessary after heavy rain. Warm woollen or poly propylene clothing is essential. ACCOMMODATION Huts have cold running water, gas cooking rings, heating, lighting and flush toilets. Walkers sleep in communal bunk rooms with mattress provided. Camping is only permitted in the DESIGNATED CAMPSITES and campers MAY NOT use the Hut facilities. Department of Conservation Staff
are in residence at each of the Huts and have radio telephone access for weather
updates and in cases of emergency.
Your accommodation may allow you to store your car while you are walking if you intend to stay upon return. This is something that would have to be cleared before you left. If not, there is free parking on residential streets within walking distance to town and theft and vandalism is minimal. In Glenorchy?There is secure parking at the Glenorchy Holiday Park for a $10 fee. In Te Anau?Secure vehicle storage is
provided by
Safer Parking, 48 Caswell Rd, Te Anau. Track
transport pickups can be arranged IN ADVANCE from this location. Is there any way to transfer my bags to Te Anau? Queenstown? Milford?Yes, Topline Tours provide a bag transfer service
between all 3 areas. The cost is $10/bag (up to 20kg) between Queenstown and Te
Anau or Milford and Te Anau, and $20/bag from Queenstown and Milford Sound.
Please note that bags weighing over 20kg will be charged extra. If you are walking the Routeburn and doing a loop on the Greenstone or Caples, you will save money. However, if you are finishing your walk at the Divide, you will not save yourself anything. Reservations for the Routeburn Track are essential. |
